As I reveal my soul
Allowing only the smallest of tributaries to be spoken
I secretly gauge the flow of your response
And wonder if you will listen
If you will hear the torment that the current brings

Or if you will, in your attempt to keep me afloat
Tell me what it is you would do
Or what you have read
Or the experiences that were exactly like mine

But what I need is for you to hear my words
Revealed to me as I reveal them to you
To let them wash me in the truth that is
And know my soul’s direction

And your part?
Is not easy
To look at me, to see me
To respond from your heart
Without answers and knowing

As each of us is rewarded by the gift of letting go
